Polis
Weltklang
POLIS is a 5-piece band from Saxonia with a sound deeply rooted in the 70's, when transition from progressive to psychedelic to heavy rock was fluent. Names like Pink Floyd and Uriah Heep, Epitaph and Jane spring to mind. But after 10 years of existence and 3 releases, they developed their own style, not least helped by using german lyrics, just like their peers in the GDR usually did. To reproduce the classic 70's sound on the new release "WELTKLANG", Polis went to the extremes. Using Hammond B3, vintage keyboards and amplifiers are mandatory. Foundation for the new record was laid, when the rehearsal room in a defunct factory was developed into a recording studio, using wooden floor, walls and ceiling. On the technological side, as much recording equipement as possible (microphones etc.) from old GDR studios were unearthed and collected. For state of the art mixing and mastering though, the entire band travelled to Peter Gabriel's Real World studios.
